Tetl-Box

With the accessibility of scientific knowledge as a goal, our student investigation team is creating an easy to afford synthetic and molecular biology education kit.

Developing science in LATAM can often be expensive and hard to access, limiting scientific progress and development given the low-budget laboratories get.

Particularly in Mexico, access to science at any level of education is not limited only by financial reasons. Other factors such as import regulations applicable to the reagents and equipment importation also have a considerable impact. These circumstances cause many institutions to find themselves without any tools or resources to share this knowledge with their students. That is why we decided to create Tetl-box, a project aimed to create the opportunity for students to approach science at the early stages of education.

¿What is TETL-BOX?

Tetl-Box is a synthetic biology toolbox, a compendium of essential tools in the form of DIY reagents that let students have a safe, affordable, and simple approach to biotechnology, molecular biology, and synthetic biology through a series of lab protocols for DNA extraction, enzymatic digestion, and ligation, cell transformation, biobrick obtention, and PCR.
