PhD (Genetics, UBC) and Co-founder & President Open Science Network Society in Vancouver, Canada. Scott has approximately 30 years of experience working with DNA-based technology in academia, Industry and community biology. He co-founded Canada’s premier community biolab in Vancouver and is an active leader in the local and global community biology movement. He is an active Open Bioeconomy Lab collaborator and has worked closely with FreeGenes since 2017 to bring open source concepts to DNA-based technologies. His free, reusable and redistributable Open Yeast Collection permits the building of modular plasmids using Golden Gate Assembly for engineering yeast was released by by FreeGenes in 2021 and has been included in the 2022 iGEMs.org Distribution. He is a member and organizer of the Friendzymes collective and acted as the Principle Investigator for a unique iGEM team with four wetlabs spread between Asia, North America and Africa and team members from 10 countries around the world. He was an organizer and unofficial photographer for the first three global community biosummits held at the MIT Media Lab.
