GitBuilding

GitBuilding is a program which allows you two embed information about the tools and components you are using directly into your assmbly instructions as you write them. This allows a project to keep track of mills of materials as the project updates. The data format used is a minimal extension of markdown to make the documentation easy to write and easy to track with version control.

We are looking to develop this syntax into an open data standard so that it can be used by other projects.

As the project matures we plan to add features to help hardware designers that are not comfortable with software version control tools such as git, to share and contribute to hardware designs that are hosted on GitHub, GitLab or similar platforms.

We are interested in help with a number of things from:

• Testing the software and providing feedback
• Documenting hardware and providing feedback on the data format
• Help developing the open data standard
• Programming help to write the software
• Design help to make sure the final exported documentation format is clear and readable
